How 'bout it just being about a friend being a friend? His presence there shows his friendship, whether he agrees with the decision or not. Only the two of them know what has or hasn’t been said amongst them about it. I very seriously doubt his soul is in any danger from attending his friend’s chrismation service. I mean, really!
Nice try but apostasy is still one of seven things that can have you excommunicated which is what his friend is committing - an act of self-excommunication.

Lets see what do we say to other Catholics who want to go hold their friends hands while committing acts of self-excommunication?

Shall he go to a woman’s ordination next because the woman is a friend of his?

What’s a Christmation? 😊
No need to blush - it is basically the Orthodox Church’s Sacrament of Confirmation. Here is a link with a better explanation from the Orthodox Church

To the OP - Now is probably a little late to explore these questions but if this were to come up again here are the questions I personally would have explored:
  1. What does the Orthodox Church have that the Eastern Rite Catholic Church cannot offer?
  2. What is not being fulfilled by the Catholic Church that you feel you will be able to have filled in the Orthodox Church?
  3. Will you turn away from these promises as well when the Orthodox Church comes back into Communion with the Catholic Church and you find yourself Eastern Catholic which more than likely is what will happen?

Thank you joan! 🙂 I’ve learnt something today.
Hey the day that goes by that we don’t learn something is the day we stop living. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share 🙂 . BTW - did you enter the Church this Easter Vigil or did you still have questions or are you slotted for next year. God bless,

Yes I entered the Church this year 😃 baptised, confirmed, then first Holy Communion. It was an amazing night and I am so happy. :o Oh and you’re welcome!

I understand completely about the not receiving communion. It’s about respect, why deceive? Even if I was invited to… it would be disrespectful in my heart.

This person is leaving the Catholic Church for the Orthodox Church.
For a Catholic to join the Orthodox Church is material schism (and may also include a rejection of dogma which means material heresy). In that case, if the person has full knowledge and consent of their action, it becomes formal and carries an automatic excommunication from the Catholic Church. Now you must ask yourself why you would condone such an act by giving tacit approval in attending the event.

possibly because she/he would be supporting her friend enter into full communion with Christ’s Church

Not if both people are Catholic - it is a rejection of baptismal and confirmation promises. Most posters have already said if the person was not Catholic prior to this there would not be an issue.

If you approach the priest beforehand, how is that deceitful?

And, you are not leaving the CC for the OC, are you? And, as I keep saying, there is only ONE Church. (A lot of people don’t like hearing that, for some reason )
Yes, there is one Church. An argument that could be used against going to this Chrismation just as you try to use it in favor.

I can’t argue with that. But it’s all academic now, anyway, as I believe he went and the deed is done.

It never ceases to amaze me how much Catholics and Orthodox can go round and round and round and round, digressing at all kinds of various points, and then end up exactly where they started-in disagreement. May God grant that we will put aside our egos, our pride, and need to be “right” and the other “wrong” so that we will be willing to commune with each other freely and openly without judgment and recrimination! May He grant that we see His One Church for what it is, and that we will all be part of it.

Certainly in that case, but then support would be consistent only with the belief that the Catholic Church was not Orthodox.

It’s happening in May. I think I will ask my pastor about it. Thank you all for your (name removed by moderator)ut though.
