Any recommendations for an excellent exhortation to train ourselves in holiness like a soldier training for battle or an athlete for competition? Could be a homily, something written by a saint or Church Father, essay, etc. This is for a young Chinese man who recently entered the Catholic Church. He is an athlete and comes from a military family. I want to encourage him to develop spiritual disciplines, learn more about the faith, and be a soldier for Christ when he returns to China.

Mother Theresa called her rosary her “weapon”. She’d say, “Bring me my weapon!”

A lot of us who emphasize praying regularly call ourselves “Prayer Warriors”.

The blog Roman Catholic Man ( romancatholicman.com ) has a military and athletic focus, although it is a US website. They have a program called “Basic Training in Holiness” posted on the blog that presents it like a training exercise. They also sell a booklet with the Basic Training in book form.
Here is Day 1 for example.

The Militia of the Immaculata, founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe, also has a military slant. This is the website for USA.
