Pray. Mind your own business. Stay out of it.
I don’t think that is wise advice in light of the fact that a radical anti-Christian individual might have a part Catholic (or at least Christian) child’s Holy Baptism if he didn’t speak up.Pray. Mind your own business. Stay out of it.
Bad advice. The priest needs to be made aware of the situation.Pray. Mind your own business. Stay out of it.
Yes. He is the one with the pastoral office to deal with the minefield, but please do tell him that there is in fact a minefield.Bad advice. The priest needs to be made aware of the situation.
Different parishes do things differently. My parish has never required anything from the godparents. Most of the couples I’ve prepared over the last several years have had either cohabiting or non-practicing godparents. I don’t like it but it’s not in my pay grade to vet the sponsors. All I get to do is list the requirements per canon law – and I make a point of saying how lucky they are to know those requirements because if I’d known them my 3 children would have 6 entirely different godparents.Did the parents attend the pre-baptism meetings yet? The choosing of a godparent/sponser is outlined there. Does this guy go to church and contribute? He will need a sponser certificate from his parish if different and this is how the church determines if the person is a practicing Catholic.
He does not sound like a person who attends mass regularly and this is a disqualifier.
Wow that seems too easy. But the parents still go to baptism prep. Sometimes the godparents attend here too, if they are local. If this is the case then maybe the parents will have a change of heart about their choice when they realize what a godparent actually is.Different parishes do things differently. You might find this relevant especially the section on requirements in Cannon Law.Here’s the situation. A radical homosexual member of the family (married to a fellow man) is trying to be a godfather to a baptismal of a baby. He has openly bashed Christianity and the Bible. …He doesn’t believe the tenets of the church and yet he’s participating. Am I wrong?
