Does anyone know what is going on (really) with Christian Children’s Fund (CCF)? I have given to them for years, with an adoptee in Africa whom I support monthly. Then, out of the blue I get this letter that they’ve been renamed ChildFund. Well, I don’t like that one bit. What’s the deal with taking Christ’s name out? And the literature I got had some of those euphemisms that might cover abortion. Anyway, I am very concerned and wondered if anyone else knew what is going on?

have no direct knowledge of this organization, but here is link to their website, and under the history section it describes reasons for name changes over the last 60 years or so, as their mission changed.

it seems to reflect the fact that they are now an amalgam of several international child aid agencies. list of leadership does not reveal much, but it appears that they began out of a Protestant background but that their base is now broader and more secular.

If you are looking for a specifically Catholic organization with a good track record look into Christian Foundation on Children and Aging CFCA, in Kansas City, this is the one we support, in part for the reason you cite, to be assured they are not supporting projects with an agenda against Catholic moral teaching.

Thank you for the information. That is very helpful. I didn’t realize until I saw your reply that I’d misspelled the title; it should say ChildFund, not ChildFune; hope somebody can correct that…I will fulfill my obligations to my current “adoptee” but I will explore what you suggest for the future, and not give further to ChildFund…it seems very suspicious.

Thank you for finding this answer, but I guess I’ll still be bothered about why they needed to drop Christ’s name in order to do charitable work. I doubt those in need will say “I refuse to accept with that name.” Seems like something else is going on…

Maybe it’s to avoid the appearance of proselytizing in areas where it is considered illegal, sometimes punishable by death.

Not making any excuses…

It’s sad that they are trying to secularize most, if not all, organizations. I think there’s a movement trying to appeal to the government for the secularization of the society. They appeal that not all people in this country (the US) believes in the same God, or even believe in a god at all. They said that it would be unfair to them because their right to belief is being violated.

This is really sad. What could be the worst situation is that the next thing we know, we will be forbidden of our own faith.
