Christian Communism?

The military is a communist organisation.

People get larger houses by having more kids, increasing their need. An O-3 who is a paperwork pusher in supply gets the same amount of money as an O-3 who is a doctor. But if the supply officer has 5 kids as compared to the no kids of the doctor, the supply officer will have a larger house. (in military housing)

Setting up a system of government based upon that would still be in line with Catholic teaching.

Not when they are both contradictory. The term ‘Christian’ entails encompases both the social and economic spheres.

“Thou shalt not steal” is an economic commandment.

And placing the qualifier ‘Christian’ before an enconomic system that is directly opposed to Christian economics IS an oxymoron.
Then “Christian capitalism” is also an oxymoron.

When I see the acts (and salaries and other "advantages’) of some CEOs, I doubt they respect the commandment “Thou shalt not steal”.

When I see that capitalism has lead us to open stores in Sunday, I doubt it respects the commandment “Thou shalt keep the Day of the Lord”.

Capitalism is a system based on Pride, Greed, Gluttony and Envy (and might I add Lust). Hmm… Five of the seven capital sins. Not very christian.

When everyone freely accept to deprive themselves of some proprieties, I think we cannot frankly speak of theft. So a certain form of socialism is not condemnable, furthermore if it is to the benefit of all. As an exemple, in Québec, we nationalized electricity and we pay less for it than anywhere else in North America.

wow i had this exact same post in another christian forum. I didnt understand why Communism and Christianity were polar opposites of one another. Furthermore i refrenced the story with Lazurus for emphasis. What i want to know now is, is how is Communism linked with liberalism. Liberalism basically is the doctrine of the individual and allows the indvidual to make their own decsicions both socially and economically. Can someone explain the connection better? and further more it is said that Communism’s goal is to do away with goverment. IF this is the case than Thomas Jefferson is a communist because he wrote " I am convinced that those societes (as the Indians) which live without government enjoy in their general mass an infinetly greater degree of happiness than those who live under the European Governments." Letter to Edward Carrington On Revolution

I’m sure most are in favor of capitalism are not in favor of unruled and unregulated capitalism (ok, maybe a few do) I’m sure most who favor socialism are in favor of a complete abandonment of personal property. As far as I’m concerned both are probably within the range of being acceptable as being within the bounds of being Catholic. No matter what each system their will be people who will rise to the top and benifit and others who do not function well. It is always the job of those who’ve been blessed with more to do more. Those blessed with more are more capable of using that blessing to become more virtueous or fall more into sin, because one faced with temptation by overcoming it will increase virtue.

You nailed it 👍
Charity is not Charity when it is forced.
Exactly!! There are PLENTY of Catholic Communisms around today; they are the convents and monestaries. These women & men give up freely what they have so that they can live in a community where others have done the same. They own very little, work in their own communities for their survival, and all their money is given to the house (I believe). If one has a doctor’s apointment or a meeting with somebody, they must ask or request a car owned by the house in advance and see if they have permission. …Of course, this is in the capitalist country of America, where they DO have these things. I’m taking it for granted that they do. I don’t know how easy life is in other parts of the world not as advanced as the United States, BUT YES, they can co-exist VERY complimentary!! 😃

That’s not Communism. That’s communalism, which has been practiced to one degree or another since the birth of the Church. Communism is a murderous, atheistic form of totalitarianism.

Thomas More’s Utopia anyone? I don’t think its possible in the real world though, because I don’t think communism can be effective in the real nation whether its Christian or not.
Yeah I remeber an history Professor of mine Dr. Tompson said in 19th cent. eurpopan history the reason it’s called “utopian” is because it dosn’t exsit. 😛 Thanks guys.

No. That is what we have come to know communism to be thanks to Mao & Stalin. That is NOT what communism IS.
