What are your Catholic opinions about the combination of Gothic culture with Christianity? For example, as seen here: www.christiangoth.com
As much as possible, I try to praise God for his marvelous works.

The way I found this website, was through a search for “Christian Goth”. Can you believe it? I have a special fondness for Goth or dark music/literature art, as well as a noire dress aesthetic. I never did goth out in terms of dress, but I do tend to be more attracted to dark colors, even more so than the average NY’er. I’m working on putting color in my wardrobe. :o

Anyway, I was doing a search and I found the very same question you’re asking on this website.

So I began to read, then I read other topics and all this reading and research culminated with me becoming Catholic.

God works in mysterious ways.

Some might say, there is nothing more goth than Catholicism. The Lord’s passion is a very dark thing as well as venerating relics.

Memento Mori, which is a saying we do think about daily as Catholics, is a goth mantra as well.

I think the danger to goth culture or any subculture is that a lot of the focus is on being different and on getting attention.

I would say that the more I focus on Christ, the less I am interested in making a statement so to speak or identifying as anything than a child of God. It’s not about me. It’s about him.

Although I still retain a fondness for dark music. 🙂

Many young people like to identify themselves with some sort of ‘type’ whether that be fashion or something else.

When I was a teenager it was glam rock style in the 70’s with fashion statement to match. My husband went through the ‘goth’ style as did my sister. and a brother and his wife.
My neice is currently going through it.She likes to wear black makeup and clothes etc

Our previous parish priest also went through this phase. He is happy that my neice is attending Mass happily as to how she dresses it is her choice.

Now I am a grandmother fashion is no longer of such great importance to me.I prefer comfort and to look smart! My taste in clothes however does still reflect my teenage years of liking wedge shoes and flared trousers!

I do not know about ChristianGoth.com but certainly just because a person dresses a certain way does not always display their inner feelings. There are good and bad people in all walks of life.I am sure the same could be said for this ChristianGoth.com.

A Christian is a Christian. I am a Christian Catholic.

Thank you for your kind and helpful responses, I greatly appreciate them. God bless. 🙂
