Ok so the goal of christian mysticism is to become one with christ. Is this taught in the way of perfection or other teachings?

St. Teresa of Avila tells about union with Christ in the “Interior Castle”.

St. John of the Cross helps with his poetry “The Ascent of Mount Carmel”. (Carmel is the mountain of prayer).

St. Therese of Lisieux in her autobiography “The Story of a Soul”, shows her little way of love and self-surrender.

It helps much to have tapes that explain a bit about the first two before delving into their writings.

Many other saints have shared about their journey to sanctity as well. We can glean a lot of good things from them.

That is our goal…union with Christ!

My own personal idea is that this is what takes place in purgatory before we are ready to see God face to face. That our soul is in perfect alinement with God and then comes the vision.

Just my thought.

The goal of Christianity is union with Christ/God. Some people pursue it a bit more fervently in this life and, if God wills, He grants them experiences of this union in the here and now.
