Hi everyone. Please please please take a look at this document:

uccf.org.uk/about-us/doctrinal-basis.htm

It is a summary of the beliefs professed by the UCCF which runs the Christian Unions in my country. As a Catholic I don’t want to profess a belief in a list of statements that might contradict the Church and what she teaches.

Please help me discern which of these we can subscribe to, and which we cannot, and why.

Thank-you

To me, this is one more satanic attack on the Church of Christ. Jesus built a Church that everyone may listen to it. too many voices. Listen to the Church only. Satan wants steal what belongs to God. Folow this example. St Augustin says: I only listen to the Gospel if tought by the Catholic Church. Why do we keep listen to protestants gospel, we know they are wrong. it is because it sounds good. Remember the Garden of Eden. Pay attention what happened there.

In a quick once-over, the conflicts I see with the beliefs of the Church are found in point c and point j.

In point c, it states that the Bible is the supreme authority over beliefs and behaviors. The Church has Tradition and Magisterium along with Scripture to form a triune supreme authority. No one part is complete in and of itself, you must have all three parts.

I can’t really put my finger on what’s wrong with point j, but it doesn’t seem right to me. It seems like they’re saying any denomination is as right as every other denomination. That simply can’t be true because so many disagree with each other. Also, as Catholics, we believe that the Catholic Church is the true Body of Christ, established by Christ Himself, and that only the Church possesses the fullness of revealed Truth.

j is denying the visible Church, making it only an invisible union of believers in Christ.

While some of what is listed can be fully assented to by a Catholic, much of it is couched in language from a Calvinist perspective. Why is this of interest to you? Are you being asked to join the Union?

Yup. Even if they allowed me to ignore this statement of beliefs, is it wrong for a Catholic to belong to a group that professes these beliefs??

Well, they won’t allow you to ignore their strongly-held statements of belief, but why would you want to? You would be under attack regularly (either subtly or forcefully), so unless you are prepared to answer every question or accusation about the Church, membership would be a constant source of irritation to you - and you to them.

As a Catholic you cannot accept their Doctrinal Basis. They are Protestant, Evangelical and have a different view than you of CHURCH. In their statement about them, they quote Luther, Calvin, etc. and speak of the Reformation as a necessary good. I don’t know why you would want to join them, but yes, we should see them as trying to promote a Christian atmosphere. Just be a good Catholic and follow your faith, be friendly and pray for them.
