I wanted to share an uplifting story of Catholics and Protestants working together on my Air Force Base. 😃

My husband, children and I are Catholic members at an Air Force Base chapel. The chapel is a federal owned, church -style building, used for religious purposes on base. The base chapel community consists of both Protestant and Catholic memebers who share the space. There are several Protestant services, including a gospel service, traditional and contemporary services, and these alternate with Catholic Masses, One on Saturday, and two on Sunday and very moderate daily Masses. All things Catholic fold into the wall, statues of Mary and Joseph at either side of the altar, holy water fonts also fold into the wall and the Tabernacle for the Eucarhist is kept in a lockable room separate from the chapel. Protestant ministers and the Catholic priest, chaplain, work together to provide for the Christian community on the Air Force Base. We have a interfaith Christian Summer Bible camp, fundraising carnivals, candle light vigils, etc.
Last Sunday the Protestant and Catholic communities held a joint offering to raise funds for hurricane victims at Keesler AFB. affected by hurricane Katrina. which devastated 95 % of the base. (including base housing so members at Keesler lost most of their base and homes.) This offering was taken at all chapel worship services on Labor Day weekend, and worshipers donated $8,892.53 ! to be used to assist fellow military members directly. It was basically an even split between the Catholic and Protestant offerings. This was one of the largest offerings ever collected at our Air Force Base!

I just wanted to share this bit of Christain unity with you, it is uplifting to know that Protestants and Catholics can work together successfully for a common goal !

That’s awesome. There are times where i begin to doubt that things like that are still possible. Thank you for sharing
