Understanding the bible gives a world view for understanding the evil and wickedness.

It sure makes it easer to recognize people who are salt and light Christians.

And other people who just play the game.

My sheep hear my voice becomes clear.

Does bible understanding give you peace and u derstanding?

Yes it does. It’s the guidebook for life that God has given to us.
Proper interpretation is key though.

Hi, Dan!

There’s this Teaching right from Scriptures:
9:10 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom; the knowledge of the Holy One-perception indeed! (Proverbs)
Yet, we cannot Know God but for His Gift to us:
1:6 Wisdom is a spirit, a friend to man, though she will not pardon the words of a blasphemer, since God sees into the innermost parts of him, truly observes his heart, and listens to his tongue. 1:7 The spirit of the Lord, indeed, fills the whole world, and that which holds all things together knows every word that is said. (Wisdom)
Yet, understand Scriptures is not limited to recognizing the Bible as God’s book:
1:22 But you must do what the word tells you, and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves. 1:23 To listen to the word and not obey is like looking at your own features in a mirror and then, 1:24 after a quick look, going off and immediately forgetting what you looked like. 1:25 But the man who looks steadily at the perfect law of freedom and makes that his habit – not listening and then forgetting, but actively putting it into practice – will be happy in all that he does. (St. James)

I am a bit unhappy with your post.
Do you imply that reading the Bible makes one judgemental and critical of others?
I hope not.
I seem to disagree with many here in CAF, and it worries me. A partial answer may be that Europeans and Americans differ.
I think we are all sinners, but also have decent tendencies.

More than any religion, book, or understanding of said religion/book, just traveling and talking to other people from different cultures, different backgrounds, different religions creates a true world view. Walking a mile in their shoes some would say. This is why it’s important to not stay secluded in one’s thoughts and beliefs without always challenging them and continuing to seek truth where ever one may be. My world view has changed immensely since living in different places and meeting new people form around the world, atheist, christian, muslim, gay, straight, poor, rich, we all share a common humanity and desire to be loved.

Hi, Jamie!

I don’t think that anyone is suggesting anything different; as poor as I am I don’t think that I would ever be as wise as you or any other well-traveled person; does that means that I’m forever the resolute small-minded jackass?

Well, if what it takes is what I do not have then that must be true.

But what if we were open minded enough to accept that traveling the world does not necessarily means that we become more astute or well-informed but that we can be influenced by different perspectives?

Let’s take the terms you’ve cited, can an atheist, Christian, muslim, gay, straight, poor, rich… not be found to be generous, selfish, stupid, rational, irrational, aloof, adroit, self-centered, conniving, moral, immoral…

The answer must be, yes!

Yet, that is quite simplistic, isn’t it?

…all of these could be religious, as well, couldn’t they?

Yet, each one would have his/her own understanding of religiosity. Muslims, for instance, have no quam with killing Christians on the guise of “dishonor.” Their practice is that the word of one Muslim is equal to two non-Muslims; can a Christian find justice in such system?

Many wealthy people believe that the poor and the scourge of the earth; if it were up to them there would be ‘mandatory sterilization’ for all the poor in the world.

The poor, as numerous as they are, are not bent on taking over the world (that’s Pinky and the Brain). Yet, they are seen as the threat to humanity by the ‘over-population’ fear-mongers.

Then we have the homosexuals–they practice that which is abomination to Yahweh God; yet, they are not content in practicing their ‘life-choice’ but they want the Church to validate it.

Do you see how it is more complex than accepting all prevailing tenets?

I would say, understanding the will of God does so. One need not open a bible to understand Gos’s will. Thats why He gave us His Church.
