Let’s all pray for the Christians in Saudi Arabia who are persecuted and forced to practice their religion in secret.

Would I be morally justified if, for example, I were a tourist/immigrant in Saudi Arabia and preached the Gospel in public? 😃 Of course, we know that it’s absolutely prohibited there. But hey, we’re called to be authentic witnesses of Christ. So is that zeal or just plain carelessness?

Someone should really campaign for freedom of religion in Saudi Arabia. It would be a missionary’s dream destination if it weren’t so dangerous (on the other hand, many might probably want to be martyred in such hostile territory, as was the St. Francis’ intention when he visited the holy land).

Any thoughts? 🙂

Because the situation you describe would foreseeably lead to your death, AIUI we are not called to do it. It is analogous to Catholics in Muslim Spain who dared the Islamic administration to behead them (and that did happen).

The life in your body is a scarce resource to be used for our LORD. It can be spent far more profitably than becoming a 1- minute blurb on MSNBC.

If God wants you to be a martyr, He will lead you into a situation where that is clearly the thing to do. We are not called to look for martyrdom.

" Standards of Conduct and Religious Police:
Islam is the official religion of the country and pervades all aspects of life in Saudi Arabia. Public display of non-Islamic religious articles such as crosses and Bibles is not permitted. Travel to Makkah (Mecca) and Medina, the cities where the two holiest mosques of Islam are located, is forbidden to non-Muslims. "

This quote is from the US State Dept - plus much more, including info about the Religious Police.

Yet, we continue to make them rich by purchasing their oil, when the US has much oil of its own that is not drilled.

Why go to Saudi Arabia and seek martyrdom? The way things are going here in North America, martyrdom would be coming to us faithful here soon enough.

Good point: it HAS happened in North America, almost within living memory. Cristeros, Mexico, 1920s.

Not just christians are being persecuted. many of the domestic workers working there suffered physical and sexual abuse. I wonder how a kingdom which prides itself as the custodian of the “holy city” of Islam and its followers behave in such inhumane manner ?:bowdown2:

Forget that–what can we actually DO to make it happen?

I mean, doesn’t God do His will no matter what we pray for or don’t pray for?
In that way of thinking, HE also does his will regardless of what we do. Logically, we are then irrelevant.

Seriously, though, what CAN we do about human conditions in a country we don’t live in?
