Christmas and a broken heart

I think of the words from the Tridentine Mass, today.
*Sursum corda *“Lift up your hearts…”

At the same time, I think of the words of scripture.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit…”

In any year when the heart feels crushed at Christmas,
I think of the fact that Easter is the major feast of the liturgical year.
So, too, Christmas may be viewed as the birth of the
Man of Sorrows, Who will become “familiar with suffering.”
The birth of a child Who will raise us up to the Father.

In those years when Christmas is kept in anguish of heart,
I find it a balm to the broken heart to think of Christmas
as the birth of an infant Who is a human being like us, in all but sin.
He, too, will know suffering and loss. We are not alone
in grief, because He understands.

I give thanks to God for those who will be working on Christmas day to protect us all, and to relieve suffering. Who are there to care for any of us who need care.

Two years ago today I was in the emergency room on Christmas eve, with a member of the family. We were able to return home on Christmas morning, and I thank God for the men and women who care for - and who protect us all - even at Christmas.

God bless you, reen… and a Merry Christmas. (((hugs)))
Thank you, MarieVeronica. I am glad that you are
posting on CAF. A big welcome to you. 🙂

I was thrilled, one day, to come across the information
that the name “Veronica” in the Greek language is
vera ikon - “true image.” As Veronica wiped the face of
Jesus, on His way of the cross, here is another Veronica
who eases the heart of another on Christmas eve, by
sending Christmas greetings.
May you have a beautiful and blessed Christmas.
And Christmas {{{{hugs]]]] to you from a grateful me.🙂
