Christmas music in December only or all year round?

Do you have a Christmas music tradition? Are you one of those people who can listen to Christmas music all year long, or only after a certain point in the year?

My tradition is to stay up on Thanksgiving night and break out the Christmas music at the stroke of midnight. All year long, I look forward to that moment. Then, at 11:59 PM on December 31st, I put it away for another year. It is difficult to keep it restricted to this time frame, but it’s for the best. If I listened to it year-round, it would cease to be special, and it would become ordinary. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Besides, I just cannot bring myself to listen to “Silent Night” on a bright, summer’s day!

My all-time favorite Christmas carol is “Somewhere In My Memory,” by John Williams and Leslie Bricusse, from the movie “Home Alone.” It’s simply an amazing piece of music, one that perfectly expresses how good it feels to be home with one’s family at Christmas. It may not be overtly religious in nature, but at least it does not attempt to exclude the word “Christmas” in favor of the more PC word “holiday,” of which I am absolutely sick and tired of hearing in commercials.

I am a fan of symphonic music, and film scores in particular, so in addition to the traditional carols, my other Christmas favorites include the scores of the movies “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “The Polar Express.” I also like the Carpenters’ “Christmas Portrait.”

I can hardly believe that the year has gone by so quickly, and that in mere days I will be listening to my beloved Christmas music once again! 🙂

In fact, I won’t be listening to Christmas until MUCH later in the month of December.
I have plently of other music to listen to that I really don’t NEED to turn on the radio for music.

I’ll listen to Christmas music AFTER the 25th. because that’s when to celebrate, and NOT before then!

The only thing that truly offends me about the Christmas season is not the “Happy Holidays vs. Merry Christmas” issue (we have Jewish people in the US. Deal with it.), but the insistent playing of Christmas music before Thanksgiving. Can’t the stores wait until December.

I wish ALL Christmas decorations, music, celebration, etc. were illegal before December. It starts after Halloween in Canada since our Thanksgiving is in October.

I find that by the middle of December I’m tired of everything Christmas. This ridiculously early start to the Christmas innundation really diminshes the joy of Christmas because it drags on for sooooo long. 😦

I do start listening to Christmas music early in November (on AOL radio and on a local radio station), but I don’t think I could handle it all year long.

I love Christmas music, starting after Thanksgiving, but I think if it is played year 'round, it takes away from some of the specialness of the season and the music.
