Hi all and peace be with you!

This notice appeared in our parish bulletin this past weekend. I only printed a portion of it with the main points I got a bit concerned about.

The Cathedral School will be performing The Living Nativity on December ## 2008 ** in the Cathedral**. The program is free of charge and open to the public. The story of the birth of Jesus will be told along with heartwarming songs performed by the students. The Cathedral School Teacher Choir will perform in the program and **will include a lyrical dance **to portray God’s grace, love and mercy which made the event of Christ’s birth possible.

For the highlighted parts: are these okay things to do in the Cathedral proper? If so, will the Tabernacle need to be relocated?

My first thought was since it’s not a liturgy it’s okay but not sure if using the Cathedral is proper. We do have a school with an auditorium but it’s small and barely holds the parents during a school event like this. The way the Cathedral is designed there is no space other than the steps leading up the altar where they can do this so I’m concerned they will use part of the altar area itself.

We may go but wanted to see what the consensus of good and proper Catholics is.

Peace in Christ!

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this type of production being staged in the Cathedral proper. The Blessed Sacrament will need to be removed from the Tabernacle and reserved elsewhere.

“Lyric Dance”? Not a problem outside of a Liturgy, although it should certainly be above board and not “suggestive” in any way.
