Christmas Specials of 60's and 70's

we have antenna tv now which plays old tv shows. to my delight they have been showing old Christmas specials with Judy Garland, Perry Como, Andy Williams and Sonny and Cher.

I loved the Christmas season growing up and the Christmas shows with my favorite performers.

Many of our favorite Christmas carols were written by Jewish songwriters. I don’t think back then they worried about offending anyone by airing Christmas shows. I miss those days. Brings back many memories.

I grew up in that era, too, and loved all those specials - Bing Crosby, the Johnny Cash Christmas specials, all the Rankin-Bass and other animated specials.

Yes, those specials were so great. I used to watch them at my grandparents’ house sometimes, with my parents there.

Sigh…brings back bittersweet memories for me, too.

I always loved the Andy Williams Christmas Special. TheOsmond brothers were always featured on the show.Also the King Family,I had forgotten about them too.

The show had been a radio drama first and was recreated on TV In both Dragnet’s 1950s and 1960s incarnations - the show dealt with the theft of a statute of the baby Jesus from a church on Christmas Eve.

“The Honeymooners” (Jackie Gleason, Art Carney et. al) had a Christmas episode in which they reworked O. Henry’s story “The Gift of the Magi.” I don’t know if this one predated the Dragnet TV episode, but it was on in the '50’s. .
