This past weekend I had my 6 y/o grand daughter shopping with me. While in Lowe’s, she asked if she could get an ornament for all the important people in her life, her family and everyone who loved her. She picked out a bunch, naming who they were for. Then throughout the day I asked what she would like to get for her mama and sister. We picked out gift bags and all kinds of things. I let her make all the choices. Her mama is going to get pink snowflake pj’s and purple slippers! “they are so pretty Nanny!”
My grand daughter has been through a rough time lately and I figured this would take her mind off things. “Mommy said Santa might not come to our house this year” she told me a few weeks ago. In spite of that, not one time all day did she ask " What about me Nanny?" She was so worried about everyone else.
It touched me to the core that this little 6 y/o was thinking about “her family” at a time that many would have been thinking about themselves in typical 6/yo fashion.
