I am enrolled in RCIA. My wife is muslim.

I am just wondering what Christmas traditions people follow.

I want it to be a special time of the year for me.

I dont know how to celebrate Christmas. What does one do beyond going to Mass?

here are a few to get you started…

Advent wreath … prayers before dinner every day in advent while we light the candles…

We set an extra plate at the table on Christmas eve and Christmas… welcoming the baby Jesus into our home.

Fish or seafood on Christmas eve…

I don’t do this one but it is common… birthday cake for dessert on Christmas

Volunteering with Angel tree Christmas party…whole family

Buy toys for tots… give them to Marine corps to distribute… all the kids pick out a toy to donate… keeps them from just thinking about themselves

Christmas eve mass… Just love it…

And… my kids actually started one… they won’t open presents until step dd is there with us… I find that one especially endearing.

Blest gave you a nice list to help you get started. Sending Christmas cards to our friends and family members is something you might like to consider. Alss, you might like to get a few cd’s of Christmas music - not the “Frosty the Snowman” variety, but pieces like “O Come All Ye Faithful”, “Silent Night”, “Joy to the World”, etc., etc.,.

Have a very blessed Christmas!

We put up a Christmas tree in our home and sing Christmas songs while we decorate the tree.

The evergreen tree is a symbol of eternal life because it stays green all year. The lights we place around the tree represent Christ being the Light of the World. The round apple like ornaments remind us of the sin of Adam and Eve.The triangle shape reminds me of the Trinity.

The presents remind us of the gifts that the Magi brought to the Baby Jesus.Christmas presents also remind us of the most precious gift God gave us-- the way to Heaven through Jesus.

We also set up a small Nativity to keep our focus on the birth of our Savior and the incarnation of Jesus and his human birth.

An Advent Wreath at our dinner table. We follow the Church as one candle is lit each Sunday for the four weeks leading up to the coming of Christ. The purple candles represent penance and the pink candle is for joy that we are half way there.

We decorate with and eat Candy Canes. Shaped as a staff to remind us that Jesus is the Good Shepherd the color white represents His purity, the red stripes His blood.

Angels are everywhere in our homes. To remind us of God’s messangers and when the Angel appeared to Mary.
