I cannot recall where I have heard this but I heard that Christ’s sacrifice continues in heaven.

How does Christ’s sacrifice continue in heaven?

It means that Christ’s sacrifice is perpetual until the last person who can be saved IS saved. His redemptive grace is open to all who ask for it, until such time as the Father determines that the last person who will make a choice for Christ has done so. At that point, Christ’s sacrifice will have been fulfilled and the Final Judgement will occur.

Christ’s sacrifice continues on heaven (Hebrews 7:25-27) where he makes intercession for us. Jesus was resurrected and ascended because his resurrection was acceptable.

We believe that Christ’s sacrifice is re-presented every time at Mass. Christ is not re-sacrificed but his one time sacrifice is made present again in an unbloody manner.
The sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the Eucharist are one single sacrifice: … “In this divine sacrifice which is celebrated in the Mass, the same Christ who offered himself once in a bloody manner on the altar of the cross is contained and offered in an unbloody manner.” CCC 1367
So, we remind God of Jesus sacrifice, repeatedly asking for mercy and forgiveness (because we have committed new sins since the last time).

One interesting part of Christ’s sacrifice is that it was propitiatory. That is, the purpose of the sacrifice was to appease God’s wrath at our sin. God, in effect, was too angry to listen to man’s sorrow at sin. Once appeased by Jesus perfect gift, God was in a mood to listen to our repentant prayers.

Imagine 2 people, one who offends the other. The offended party is angry. Too angry to talk to the offender. A friend to both parties steps in. He talks to the angry one. Gives him a gift. Says “Please, just listen.” Now, the offended party is willing to talk. All is NOT done. The breach is NOT healed. One thing still needs to be done. The offending party still needs to apologize and make it right.

Notice in this situation a legalistic standpoint cannot hold. Legally we can NEVER repay God for how badly we have offended him. But because of that intercession, he will forgive.

IF we repent!

Jesus opened the door. We still have to make the apology and repent.

Jesus’ “Finished work on the cross” isn’t really finished then. He is STILL interceding.

God be with you.

I will like to answer to you with this verses

Hbrews 9:27 "Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

1 Peter 3:18 "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

1 Peter 2:24 "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

When Jesus in the cross said “It is finish” He meant that, it was completed,His sacrifice was over, the work was done.

JTS,

It is always interesting to hear WHY people say what Jesus MEANT when he said that sentence. Since my Hebrews quote says that Christ is interceding NOW for us. The finishing he was referring to must have been something else.

Jesus does NOT have to die again and again. The sacrifice is re-presented on the alter at Mass. Not re-sacrificed. However the sacrifice is as vital and real as a propitiation to God for sins committed as if the sacrifice HAD happened again at Mass.

So we are not saying Christ had to die again and again.

Some of the other quotes I don’t find relevant. Please clarify.

God be with you.

But, God is outside of time. Otherwise, his one sacrifice could not hold for those yet to be born. Yes, Christ died once for all, but until all that accept him are saved, the door remains open.

From the First Eucharistic Prayer:

Almighty God,
we pray that your angel may take this sacrifice
to your altar in heaven.
Then as we receive from this altar
the sacred body and blood of your Son,
let us be filled with every grace and blessing.

Note the image of the altar at Mass mirroring what is happening at the eternal altar in heaven.
