It seems the Church should have some kind of support group for those who suffer from ptsd and other conditions. The Church should at least have a 12 step program, but from what I have observed, the Church does not do such things, or not very often. I have been to many Churches in the last few yrs because I travel a lot (or did). I never noticed any such groups. I feel left out a lot… There isn’t even a singles group in most Churches anymore. So once again I ask: What the devil is going on in the Church lately?

Why is that something the church needs to do? There are PTSD support groups run by people that are trained to help those with PTSD.

If there is no singles group at your church, start one. Talk to your pastor and get it going.

ha ha… right

I don’t feel comfortable talking to him. I have ptsd (the worst kind, caused by human evil)

The group I had in mind does not focus on things that only professionals usually know a lot about. Support groups are merely for support, not medicinal-like healing or whatever… And the 12 step groups are quite helpful without professional assistance. I don’t know the priest at my new parish well anyway… but I try to go by my gut feelings since that is all I have… and so far… well, I just don’t feel comfortable. That may not mean much bc I don’t feel comfortable with anyone, don’t trust ONE person at this point. And why should I

Why should anyone??

No one should

I disagree. People suffering from PTSD and other disorders should seek a qualified Counselor, Psychologist, and/or Psychiatrist.

Was there ever? Seriously, I’ve never seen such a thing in my area. Nevertheless, you should either speak to your Priest about starting one or find a Parish that currently has one.

Well, there you go then. If you are uncomfortable speaking to your priest because of your PTSD, how would a church group help you out as opposed to another?

I am not suggesting medical groups, but counselors that are trained. Masters degree in counseling.

Some Dioceses have St Dymphna Society, it is a support group for those suffering from PTSD, depression, mental illness. Our Diocese also has another support group specifically for abuse victims.

The Calix Society is the Catholic program that goes along with AA/NA

Catholic Charities at your Diocese can help you find the support local to you.

I’ve yet to find a Diocese that does not have a Young Adults group.

There are National Singles Conferences like:

I will pray for you.

Thanks for that info TheLittleLady! Perhaps the OP can bring those to the pastors attention.
