Can some one lead me to information relating to the current size of the Catholic Church, East, West and Orthodox by rite? Percentages would be fine as well.

Roman Catholic = approximately 98% of Catholics
Eastern Catholic = approximately 2% of Catholics - I’ve seen Maronite and I’ve seen Byzantine listed as the largest subgroup of Eastern Catholics
Orthodox = do not recognize authority of the Pope, and therefore aren’t officially Catholic; though there are Orthodox who are pretty Catholic themselves!

Sorry, though, this is old data and only stored in my memory now. I can’t remember where I found it first!

RC = about 98% with 1,000,000,000 world wide
All other Catholics about 2% with 17,000,000 (but this number is considered only a guessitmate and probably is a little larger)

The breakdown of various “other Catholics” (only those within the Catholic Church - both recognized by Vatican and recognizing the Vatican) - would be as follows

Albanian <1000
Armenian 363,000
Bulgarian 15,000
Byelorussian 105,000
Chaldean 304,000
Coptic 197,000
Croatian 49,000
Ethiopian 203,000
Georgian <5,000
Greek 2,000
Hungarian 282,000
Italo-Albanian 64,000
Maronite 3,220,000
Melkite Greek 1,252,000
Roman 1,000,000,000
Romanian 1,119,000
Russian 3,500
Ruthenian 533,000
Slovakian 222,000
Syrian 138,000
Syro-Malabar 3,886,000
Syro-Malankar 327,000
Ukrainian 5,160,000

I do not have the source handy - but numbers were from about 2000. The source was a good one and I have used these numbers when I given talks about the membership of the Melkites in the Universal Church.

Fr. Roberson of CNEWA has a brief survey of all of the Eastern Churches (Catholic and Orthodox) updated at least yearly and can be accessed at:

cnewa.org/ecc-bodypg-us.aspx?eccpageID=3

The brief survey gives you the statistics (based on the Annuario Pontificio for the Eastern Catholic Churches) and a short history of each of the Eastern Churches.

Based on the latest Annuario, the Catholic Church (Latin Church and Eastern Catholic Chruches) numbers approximately 1.14 billion.

Thank everyone so much! I have half of my question seemingly answered. Can someone direct me to Eastern Orthodox population by rites?

Bless you brothers! 👍

Just click on the Table of Contents on the right hand side of the web page and you will be able to view the statistics at the bottom of a particular Church’s brief history, all appoximations, including those of the Assyrians, the Orientals, and the Eastern Orthodox Churches.
