That’s really sad.
Eternal rest grant unto Anba Epiphanius, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

I pray also for justice and that the killer is caught before he harms anyone else.

Violence against Christians in Egypt has been terrible.

The Coptic Church is full of martyrs in our present day.

How utterly sad, Lord have mercy. May the good abbot’s memory be eternal.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

@Athanasiy, are you following the news about this? What is known about the circumstances of the murder, the identity of the killer, and his motive? Are there suspicions that this is yet another act of religiously motivated anti-Christian violence by a Muslim attacker? From the very slender information given here, it could be just a bungled burglary or something of that kind.

Marc Swanson:

Others will write obituaries that will point out the wide range of Bishop Epiphanios’ contributions to the Coptic Orthodox Church and contemporary Coptic Orthodox monasticism. Here I’d like briefly to elaborate on Dr. Wageeh’s point that he was a humble scholar – both a modest, self-effacing, generous individual and someone who in recent years has published a series of very useful texts: on the Arabic translations of the Coptic Orthodox liturgies, a beautiful edition of the Arabic apophthegmata (Bustan al-Ruhban), and editions of works by Bulus al-Bushi and Butrus al-Sadamanti. His work is marked by care and precision and by an extraordinary ear for quotations from and allusions to Scripture.

We mourn the loss of a wonderful human being … and a great friend of the Christian Arabic literature.
