Church teaching on intersexuality

I recently began researching Intersexuality for my senior thesis. I have come across a lot of interesting information during the research process. Unfortunately, I have found almost nothing that portrays the official teaching on how such individuals should take care of their situation (i.e. transvestism, genital reconstruction, marriage, etc.). Furthermore, I came across some information that led me to the idea that I might be one of them myself. Does anybody have any idea as to what the church teaches about intersexuality? Thank you

Look here…we are born male and female and yes there are anomalies…too often those looking to say that I am a man in a womans body or vice versa point to anomalies…you may want to rethink who you think you are…

If one accepts the teaching of the church that sex reassignment surgery (SRS) and hormone treatments distort the God-designed and God-created human body to the extent that it is a very serious sin, one might ask if there are extenuating circumstances which would make the procedures acceptable to the church.

I can refer you to the exchanges between Zoe and Gretta1 (from post #18) in the thread referenced below. Gretta’s explanation might help in terms of interpretation of Church laws and **does not disregard that the individual must also seek pastoral advice. ** and most worthy in respect of Church teachings is that we must behave with love and compassion for those in difficult situations. I would, however, stress that you treat the exchange of posts with a caveat because Gretta’s replies referred exclusively to the personal circumstances of the individual she was replying to.

This is a thorny and vastly varied area of pastoral concern, so going through every eventuality is probably not practical here. You might want to ask a physician concerning how the things you researched might apply to you, and if advised to do so, get diagnostic exams and tests done to describe what your situation is. You’ll have a bit easier time getting answers concerning how Church teaching applies to you when you have a better idea of what sort of issues you are contending with, what causes them, and which avenues (including doing nothing) that current medical practice typically offers as treatment.

I do not mean that if medicine says that doing nothing is an option that the Church will require that you do nothing! I mean that it is better for the longevity of your cardiac system if you get answers and find out what your real concerns are instead of worrying about what concerns might or might not be your lot in life.
