So as not to derail another thread: A self-identified “chastity” website identified as being in the “Roman Catholic Mystic Tradition” came up in the nearby thread on “sexy underwear in the (marital) bedroom.” The answer linked in that thread made it pretty clear that marital sex after the childbearing years was highly morally questionable.

Is that really what the Church teaches? I would have thought that marital intimacy was an absolute good regardless of a couple’s age, and allowed an older couple to renew their sacrament and marital bond as they grew older. I didn’t think the concept of “two becoming one flesh” had an expiration date. Or have I been unknowingly influenced by the worldly obsession with sex?

No that’s not what the Church teaching. The morality of sexual intimacy flows from the relationship, not any external factors. If a couple is validly and sacramentally, married to each other they are not only allowed but entitled to enjoy the marital embrace. The fact that one or both parties becomes infertile does not change the relationship from which flows that right.

Well if we would follow mystical private revelation then sex after menopause would be mortally sinful, so would relations during pregnancy.

The church is very proud to uphold the tradition of allowing the most worry free form of sex exactly around the time when our bodies start to go down hill. 😃

the teaching is to be open to new life no mater that menopause has come and gone . think of Abraham and Sarah .

Yes you are correct. No problem…martial relations can continue in the ordinary Christian Moderation and joy.

There have been in history those who decided to live “continently” for God and prayer…but such is a more rare calling…

One can be holy etc in the ordinary circumstances of life.

The biggest obstacle to sex in menopause is not the Church, it’s the Wife… 😃
