I have heard nothing but “good reviews” about the new movie with a boxing theme. Last summer was a disaster with “Million Dollar Baby”…the pro-death boxing movie…winning all the awards. The new boxing movie is rumored to be about a struggling boxer who has morals and principles. He even pays back the welfare money that he received during hard times.
Unfortunately the director Ron Howard also plans to direct a very anti-Catholic movie about the Da Vinci Code. I have mixed feelings about supporting “Cinderella Man” because of that. If we support good wholesome movies we are voting with our money so more good movies will be produced. (we hope) On the other hand, if we put money into the pockets of directors like Ron Howard he will have more money to produce his Da Vinci Code movie.

 My question is:

Is it better to spend money [smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/5/5_3_3.gif](http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm006YYUS) on a movie with a good moral message in order to encourage other producers to make more good movies even thought the director of this particular movie directs anti-Catholic movies ....or

Is it better not to go to a movie with a good moral message if the producer/director is the same guy who will be directing (I'm not sure if he is producing) the Da Vinci Code.

I know Michael Medved thinks highly of this movie. I wonder what Michael would advise? [smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/1041.gif](http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm006YYUS)

Cinderella Man is a very good film, and Ron Howard did another fine job. Being a fan of his past work, I am looking forward to seeing what he does with Da Vinci Code.

BTW, comparing Cinderella Man to Million Dollar Baby is unfair. It’s apples and oranges. Whether you like the story or not, Clint Eastwood did a fabulous job with the material.

Thank you Bella for responding. I am also a fan of Ron Howard. I agree with you that good acting and directing is important in a movie. Russell Crowe will not disappoint us, I am sure.

I also would like to see better scripts. I am so hungry for a good screen play that I actually considered writing one myself. I took the Robert McGee scriptwriting course one weekend in Los Angeles. It is an excellent course for anyone considering scriptwriting.

I was disappointed in the script for “Million Dollar Baby”. The priest was so milk-toast and it did not make sense to me that the Clint character would commit mercy killing after going to daily communion for all those years. A script has to make sense for me to appreciate it.

I just saw it today and thought it was wonderful. I have never been so into boxing as when watching this movie. The Church is also portrayed in a positive manner where the priest is a friend and supporter. Crowe’s character has so many great messages, teaching his son not to steal, and repaying the federal emergency relief after he made some money back saying that America is a great country and is there to support the people when they need help but he is not going to depend on it.

I would see it again,

Interesting… but for me the Priest that Clint had the dialog with all those years made the movie more believable for me. There is a priest like that presently in our Parish - maybe I was relating to him in some way.

I totally hate boxing, but somehow the entire script made sense to me. Of course I am one of those who goes to the movies for certain people. With Million Dollar Baby, I had to see it as I became a fan of Eastwoods direction after seeing MYSTIC RIVER. I had no idea what Million Dollar Baby was about. But it didn’t matter to me.

Re: Ron Howard and the Da Vinci Code - I never thought about reading it till I heard he was doing the movie… now I am just waiting for a used paperback copy via Amazon.com.
