Citing growing interest in Traditional Latin Mass, Archbishop Chaput creates quasi-parish

I can only speak for the U.S. and Turkey (my home country). In both countries the TLM is very rare, almost extinct in fact which is quite sad in my opinion
TLM Is not “very rare, almost extinct” in the United States. I can pretty much find a TLM on any given Sunday in three or four different states; often multiple options for one.

In some regions of the USA where there are fewer Catholics, it may be more difficult to find a TLM, but in any area with a large Catholic population, it’s not hard, especially if you have a car and drive like most US people do.

Well said, Maximillian75… If Latin said in the EF is “separating from the general population”, then, by the same argument, wouldn’t the OF said in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Portuguese, German, Italian, etc… also be separating from the general “English” population in the very same diocese? Since when saying Mass approved by the Church is separating from the general population?

I pray that proper respect and honor are given to all Rites and forms approved by the Church—anywhere and everywhere. On the contrary, the lack of respect and honor due to all Rites and forms are in themselves separating from the Church.

Archbishop Chaput had conducted proper due diligence and consultation with local priests and interested parties prior to making his decision. I hope and pray that this quasi parish initiative will bear good fruits.

Let’s make some points we all ought to agree on:
  • Some people like the TLM
  • Some people don’t like the TLM
  • There is a priest shortage, which means the Church cannot do a lot of good things people would like
  • If there are enough people interested in it in a geographical area, and a priest is available, it is a good idea to have a scheduled regular EF Mass; then to set up a quasi-parish; if it shows itself to be a stable community of sufficient size, it should be made a parish
  • The Ordinary Form is fully valid. Those who try to undermine its validity hurt the cause of spreading the Extraordinary Form.

I like Latin.

It is more precise than English.

More elegant.

Still remember many of the Latin songs, hymns, prayers and responses.

For those who want to attend a Latin Mass, so be it.
All I am saying is that there are many Catholics of my generation who liked Latin back then and would like to see it come back to replace the way we do things now.
I love the Catholic Church. And I love the Mass. And I love being able to participate and hear the words in my spoken language.

I know quite a few people who attend or prefer the EF of mass. I know no one, personally, who want it to replace the new mass. Well over half if the people I have met who like the Latin Mass are young enough that they have little or no memory of the Latin Mass from their childhood.

I think you are being unfair in your statement that many would like it to replace what we have now.
