As an RCIA Candidate, I have not been asked to fast or observe abstinance. At age 62, I understand fasting is not a requirement anyhow. But I have been told that fasts and abstinances offered to Mother Mary help the souls in Purgatory. I like that.
So I now abstain from meat on all Fridays. And while fasting may not be required by the Church, my Physician wants me to lose weight in a moderate fashion. So I now fast on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and shall see how it works out.
BUT…does fasting also require abstinance? I have read contradictory comments on this. Tomorrow is Saturday. One moderate meal, plus two snacks.) Can that moderate meal include a lamb chop, or should I open that can of salmon?
(I’m sure my three cats would vote for the salmon )
