As an RCIA Candidate, I have not been asked to fast or observe abstinance. At age 62, I understand fasting is not a requirement anyhow. But I have been told that fasts and abstinances offered to Mother Mary help the souls in Purgatory. I like that.👍

So I now abstain from meat on all Fridays. And while fasting may not be required by the Church, my Physician wants me to lose weight in a moderate fashion. So I now fast on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and shall see how it works out.

BUT…does fasting also require abstinance? I have read contradictory comments on this. Tomorrow is Saturday. One moderate meal, plus two snacks.) Can that moderate meal include a lamb chop, or should I open that can of salmon?

(I’m sure my three cats would vote for the salmon  )

They are two different things.

Yes, your fasting meal can contain meat.

Although it may not apply to you. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the exceptions to my answer.
Thank you very much for your feedback. 👍

Well, I can worry about that in a few months. I want to see how abstinance on Friday and fasting on Wednesdays and Saturdays works out. At age 62 I may not be REQUIRED to fast, but if I can do so with no danger to my health (and I will be consulting my Physician on this), it should be OK.

Haven’t thought about the Lenten fast (also quite optional), but again will check with my Physician. If I can use it to lose weight in a MODERATE fashion, I’m sure she will give the go-ahead. She prefers I lose no more then a pound per week.:coffee:
