I have seen it written elsewhere that our new Holy Father has said that there will no longer be any evangalical missions to the Jews from the Catholic Church.

christianitytoday.com/ct/2002/131/32.0.html

I would like clarification on this, if any know.

My thought was that God’s covenant was with Jews was as-a-people, and that God would never allow the Jews to be destroyed as-a-people, yet each individual person (Jews, Hindus, Stock-Brokers, everyone) must still accept Christ individually.

Yes? No? What is the Pope’s position?

I would still like others to comment, there seems to be confusion on this issue…

I am most concerned with Pope Benedict’s position, now and when he was Cardinal Ratzinger.
This thing has been kicking around since 2002. The simple answer is that Christ preached to the Jews. Was He wasting His breath?

Let’s put this a bit in perspective. A subcommittee of an episcopal conference of one country (n.b. the Catholic Church’s centre of unity is Rome, not Baltimore) publishes a discussion paper on Catholic-Jewish relations that, in an attempt to address legitimate Jewish concerns regarding aggressive proselytism, uses sloppy and infelicitous language that could be read as suggesting that Christ’s salvific work need not apply to Jews. No such document has been prepared for the Catholic episcopal conference of any other country, and the US bishops understandably declined to endorse the document.

Why is anyone giving any further credibility to this? Why is anyone still confused?

(confused as to why anyone would be confused)
