I don’t know where you are located. For a short, immediate answer, November 1 is not a day of obligation in the U.S. this year because it falls on a Monday.

I don’t mean to cut short a discussion of the general question of working on Sundays and Days of Obligation. Just don’t have the time to start that at the moment. I hope someone else will pick that up.

(a) November 1 is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year as it falls on a Monday. See this year’s Liturgical Calendar at the USCCB website and this page at the USCCB website.

(b) Even if it were a Holy Day of Obligation, yes you should attend your classes and no you would not be committing any sin in doing so.

How does your education fall under “work or activities that hinder the worship owed to God”??

By the way I hope you know that Mass the evening before a Holy Day of Obligation fulfills the obligation.

Canon Law:

Can. 1248 §1 The obligation of assisting at Mass is satisfied wherever Mass is celebrated in a Catholic Rite either on a Holy day itself or on the evening of the previous day.
