While looking through a prayer book, the Rosary mentioned something called the “clause method” of praying the Rosary by which you add a descriptive clause of each mystery after “thy womb, Jesus.” (For example, for the first joyful mystery, “Jesus, who you conceived by the power of the Holy Spriit.”)

The prayer book said that this method had been highly commended and recommended by Pope Paul VI and is required in some countries. Why is information about this method so rare? This is the first time I had heard of it.

Also, what would be the descriptive clauses for the new Luminous Mysteries?

I’m familiar with that as the ‘short form’ from St. Louis de Montfort (look for a copy of the Secret of the Rosary, which you may be able to obtain as a give-away from a local Rosary Society–I know in my parish they buy them in bulk so as to be able to give away).

Consequently, there wouldn’t be anything for the luminous set of mysteries (yet), to my knowledge.

The broadcast of the Family Rosary on Catholic Familyland Television (the one where the whole family is sitting around the living room praying the Rosary) uses this method. I’ll have to try to catch what they do for the Luminous Mysteries, and if I am successful (and if noone else beats me to it 😉 ) I’ll post the phrases here.

The clauses can be your own, based on your meditations.

Some examples for the Luminous mysteries:

Jesus, who gave us the gift of Baptism to welcome us into the family of his church
Jesus, who performed his first miracle, not because it was his time, but because you asked him
Jesus, who continually calls us to reconversion, because we are imperfect
Jesus, who gave us a glimpse of eternal life in Heaven, when he introduced the apostles to Mosesd and Elijah
Jesus, who gave us the bread of eternal life, the Eucharist.

Yes, they can be your own clauses based on what the Spirit is saying to you as you meditate on each mystery.

FWIW, we have 5 young kids so when we pray a family Rosary, our clauses will usually be something like:

Blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus, who sees you poking your sister…

Blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus, who wants you to pay attention…

Blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus. Did I mention he sees you poking your sister? 😃

Okay, those will work 👍
