anyone seen this? Just curious what others thought (as if the source of the show isn’t enough to turn you away…lol)

I just get this feeling they want me to believe Mary was some feminist that the Church has stifled into being a quiet, submissive churchmouse (for lack of a better term) – did I misinterpret this?

Wasn’t there three Marys?

Eh, anyway… It was OK. I think CNN didn’t do a very good job of explaining the Catholic Church’s position on gnosticism. They seemed to accept the fact that the Gospel of Mary was a gnostic writing, yet they act like it is a valid Catholic book and that the Catholic Church was/is trying to keep it secretive or something.

Beyond that, it wasn’t bad.

I didn’t watch the show, but I saw the commercial for it, which was enough to keep me away from it. There are so many errors and subtle anti-Catholic messages all over that I’m pretty much giving up on seeing the truth about the Church portrayed in any secular TV program. I don’t know if we can name particular stations on this board, but it’s all over the secular media anyway. Shows that claim to tell the “history” and “truth” of some religious theme are almost always more sympathetic to the anti-Catholic side, and hide the Catholic side of the story.

That’s how I see it anyway. Does anyone see it another way?

This, by the way, is one reason I’m so glad for the apologists at Catholic Answers. I’ve tried to study some of these errors, but I find that the deeper I go, the more complicated it gets. It just frustrates me that there are so many people watching these shows and eating up the misinformation, including, unfortunately, many under-catechized Catholics. It also makes me understand the wisdom of the Church when it had the forbidden books list. Unfortunately, now it would be impossible to evaluate all the information available in all the different media.

Merry Christmas to all,
Ruth

Absolutely with you on this one. The productions on AandE, Discovery Channel, History Channel and CNN are BAD.

I’ve also seen those junk shows. I can see it very clearly what they always trying to do… bad mouthing Catholicism! I watched some of it with scornful eyes.

For example, it tells why Peter became a leader of the apostles by showing his leadership characteristics and I was like, 'No, it wasn’t his leadership characteristics. It was Christ who chose him to be a leader, the Rock, plain and simple you dope head! ’

Haha Something tells me Peter wouldn’t have made it very far in the Apprentice or in a CEO search. But you know never under-value the Holy Spirit.
