A most central question raised by so many, “Does God exist?” For those so inclined, by “exist” we shall mean “is”.
Many question God’s being, yet often when confronted with evidence may shrug it off or skirt around it or etc. However, it is difficult to just ignore a mountain of evidence.
Catholic Answers Forum is composed of many intelligent posters from a variety of different fields. So, I think it would be marvellous if we compiled a case for God being. It will help skeptics and those struggling in the Faith intellectually.
This is the place to post proofs and evidences towards showing that God is from various sources. This can be philosophical arguments, legitimate miracles, evidences of design of the Universe, etc. Anything that “builds the case” of evidence for the Creator.

Only complain about a particular piece of evidence if there is a LEGITIMATE concern with the validity of an argument or source. DO NOT complain about how you “feel” about an argument or this thread.
 
Before beginning, what exactly would be the purpose of this? Atheists will just scream “God in the gaps” and ignore it.
 
It would help people like myself who truly want to believe but struggle to find something to challenge our skepticism. It’s only because of amazing people on this forum I’ve gone from atheist to agnostic which was a big step for me.
 
That’s a valuable reason. I just get the sense sometimes that people don’t care as much about the in-betweens as they do the ones on the extremes.

Everything has an end and a beginning; this is simple. Even the universe does, that beginning being the big bang. If the universe were infinite in age, then there would be an infinite amount of time that had passed since it began. If the universe had existed for an infinite amount of time, then the supposed “Heat Death of the Universe” would have already happened. The Second Law of Thermodynamics says so; as time passes, things move from order to disorder. Therefore, moving at any nonzero pace of entropic degeneration, the universe would already have experienced maximum entropy. As entropy has been thought up, it exists, so the pace of entropic degeneration must be nonzero. So, the universe has a beginning. What caused this beginning? Furthermore, how did the universe come into existence? If you assume the matter has always existed in a state where the rules of Thermodynamics don’t apply, and so entropy doesn’t exist, then you must say that something caused the universe to come into being, or the “Big Bang”. Well, nothing happens without a cause. If the matter inside the infinitely dense universe caused itself to explode, then it had to do so at the moment it entered the infinitely dense state. So, it had some point of coalescing to cause the detonation. So, the universe had to have either been stable and non-detonating, which is impossible since it did, or came into being at some point. How does something come from nothing? It needs to be created, which denies basic physics. The only thing which can deny physics is some supernatural being, that which we assume to be God.
 
My take.

We need philosophical and scientific reasons that express why God must be the necessary-existing reality, and not the Universe or some other physical reality.

At the end of the day, that’s the real issue. Something must have always existed, or else nothing could not exist. The chain of being must end somewhere: Now, what is the nature of this “First” or “Ultimate” Cause or source of all existence?
  1. Personal experience suggests that every situations and realities are contingent. Humans depend on other things for their existence; so do molecules of this or that kind; so do planets; so do stars; and so on. Nothing physical of the day-to-day experience can be the ultimate reality. Therefore, naturally, many atheists who expect some physical reality to be ultimately reality concede this, and do not look to day-to-day experience, but in the area of quantum physics and more fundamental aspects of physical reality that are often unexpected. My knowledge of such things are at a minimum. But it seems that our daily experience would apply to even these fundamental parts of physics: Anything that can change or has potential or is subject to “motion” and is limited to this or that way of existing must have a more fundamental explanation: Hence, no individual particle or empty vacuum or whatever can be ultimate existence. This requires more fleshing our philosophically.

That is not an acceptable argument in some cases.
While you can avoid or ignore a small mound under your feet, you cannot ignore a mountain of evidence.

The purpose of this thread is to provide a a community effort whereby we come together to essentially “build a case” of evidence and arguments so that we can show beyond a reasonable doubt that God is.

Of course, that requires cooperation by many people.

It won’t come to much unless we work together, here! Though I understand asking to work together may be difficult on this forum…
 
One thing that has immensely helped me so far is the testament of other atheists and agnostocists as it helps to see they saw something different. But it’s more so about helping to see there’s more than what can be observed.
