Looking for recommendations for good, affordable Catholic colleges for a conservative hs sophomore who is fascinated by Church history. HS grades in theology, history, drama and English are excellent. Math/sciences run low A to mid-B level. She really wants to teach theology and Church history. Any recommendations?
 
Both of my brother inlaws attended Briar Cliff University located in Sioux City, Iowa one is currently a Catholic school teacher and praises his college experience.

Well it’s not extremely affordable, it’s cheaper than most private Catholic universities, Franciscan University of Steubenville is great. I highly recommend it, it’s the most faithful college that I found that had a lot of different majors.
 
What is affordable? In my opinion, none of the good Catholic colleges are affordable. Sad.
 
I don’t know how affordable it is, but University of Dallas might be worth looking into.
 
Belmont Abbey College is where I attended (before transferring to automotive school) and my wife graduated from. Great college with a monastery with Benedictine monks/priests. It’s in Charlotte, NC, but unfortunately it is not particularly cheap.
 
Big fan of Thomas Aquinas.

With affordability- You know, many (not all certainly) of the Catholic schools offer a beter financial aid package than state schools. Youwill be surprised when you do your FAFSA what private schools will throw in on the aid sheet, while state schools might look paltry in comparison.
 
Oh I might add, that after grants & outside scholarships I’m paying only like 4-,000 to 5,000 more than a state school would cost me. I work really hard to get that financial aid, but it’s worth the hard work. (I might add that the extra I have been paying has been worth every cent.)
 
If I were you I’d do all your basics at a state school or community college and then transfer to a catholic college to finish your upper level classes. You’ll save thousands that way.

Many of the top tier schools are doing away with student loans all together and even some of the second tier schools are guarenting that you won’t graduate with more than X amount of loans. Sadly I’ve yet to see a Catholic school offer/match these kind of offers.

Hahaha… I thought you were talking about a son so I was going to say wherever I send my dd…😉

Your dd sounds alot like mine… only she isn’t sure if she wants to be a chemist (our chemist has had his hand in this) or something else…

Affordable is relative, but I will provide you with a link to an important list of colleges which are true to the Catholic faith. The Catholic Identity Guide 2007-2008 will be a good start for you and the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ of selection are fully explained. What is a good Catholic education worth? Priceless.

East of the Mississippi, and, actually, we lived in Montreal when she was pre-school - 1st grade, so Canada is not out of the question. . . tho’ she’s lost much of her fluency in French 🤷
 
Yes, definitely check out Belmont Abbey College–go visit if you can. I think you will be very impressed. They are expensive compared to state schools but do offer more financial assistance so it may be do-able.

Our dd#2 is very much hoping and praying she will be able to attend there this fall. She has been accepted and offered some financial assistance but has also applied for a couple other scholarship programs there. If she gets one, then she will for sure be able to go!!! It will still cost more than a state school but I think the education and experience she will receive there will be worth it. Very special place, indeed! 👍

4-5K more per year or total?
