I was wondering if there were places that sponsor people who to go college seminary that are discerning religious life more so than diocesan priesthood. I feel like a college seminary would be the best place for me to grow however have never heard of any religious order or diocese who will sponsor those who believe they are called to religious life. If anyone has any info that would be great!

I suppose minor seminary would be a more appropriate term (the minor seminary my diocese sends our guys to is called St. Joseph’s Seminary college)

The minor seminary in my diocese has students who are going into religious life, if that’s what you mean.

Yeah, however you have to be sponsored by someone to go into seminary, you can’t just apply like a regular school. My diocese won’t sponsor people going into religious life

I’ve heard of seminaries and minor seminaries, but not college seminaries and how they work. Can you give an example?
A “college seminary” is just a newer, informal term for “minor seminary”

I was under the impression you had to be a member of the religious order for them to sponsor you in the seminary.

The first step to be a religious priest would be to sign on as a novice so they see if you are a good match and they want to sponsor your seminary education.

What you describe really doesn’t exist.

There are some seminaries that are exclusively for one religious order (the like the FSSP Seminary in Nebraska), and there are seminaries that train Diocesan & Religious order seminarians.

But I’m not aware of a seminary that is primarily for just religious order seminaries from different Religious Orders. Religious order seminarians typically live in a house owned by the order, and not with the rest of the seminaries at the seminary.

However, please check out Holy Apostles College & Seminary in CT. I think they allow unsponsored seminaries for a short time.

@Cloisters - actually, I’m going to rephrase this after googling…

It turns out that outside the United States, A “Minor Seminary” was what we Americans would call a “High School Seminary,” while a “College Seminary” would be what we Americans call “minor Seminary.”

God Bless

Just to make the point, the FSSP Seminary exists primarily for their Fraternity, however, they do have seminarians from other Traditional orders.

I concur with Holy Apostles. I’ve known a couple of men who went there unsponsored.

There are definitely religious orders who will accept candidates straight out of high school into college seminary. Our order does it. At least with us, you don’t go through novitiate and take your vows until after graduating college seminary, so the tuition fees and allowances would have to be paid by the candidate or the candidate’s family, but general living expenses are covered by the Order. For us, the philosophy seminarian (college seminary) would enter the college seminary program at Seton Hall (where our Major Seminarians in the USA go for seminary). The formation program would be under the complete authority of the Order, only the classes would be with the diocesan and other religious seminarians at he college as we have our Seminary off-campus.
