This afternoon I openly admitted to someone that God is the only relaxation I need and almost immediately I felt a strong warmth inside. Has anyone ever experienced something like this?
Yeah, just take it as a little consolation and move on.
It’s usually pretty common for people just coming back to the faith to get small consolations. It’s God’s way of encouraging them to continue on the path. After you’ve been back for a while they often diminish because they’re no longer needed and you will experience more desolation or just ordinary.
God gives us the grace of small consolations throughout our Journey home to Him.
A Priest I listened to recently said everyone will go through some form of the dark night of the soul, where we feel God withdraw. It is not that God does. It tests our faith.
The Book of Revelation has a bit to say on this in the letters John is tasked to write to the angel of each of the seven churches by Jesus. first few chapters of Revelation.
About a year ago, during a dark period of my life, I got up early to go to confession and Mass. As I was driving home, I thought about how I desired to reform my life and was filled with basically what you describe: a warm, hopeful feeling. It was wonderful and reassuring. I think it was one of the many turning points in rededicating myself to the faith.
