Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This coming Friday and Saturday, God willing, the Church celebrates not only the First Friday and First Saturday of June, but also the Feast on Friday of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and on Saturday, the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
How wisely the Church has placed these Feasts to follow the Feast of “Corpus Christi”, (Body and Blood of Christ)! It is a time to continue pondering the great mystery of our call as members of His Body the Church, and a time to “Behold the Man” Whom Pilate set before the crowd before sentencing Jesus to death. Pilate who asked “What is Truth?” had Jesus - the Way, the Truth and the Life standing there, and did not recognize Him. Jesus however loved “unto the end”. The Word became Flesh knowing He would be a “ransom for many”.
On the Cross, He won forgiveness for all of us, and turning to His disciple John, Jesus said, “Behold your Mother” and John obediently took Mary into his life. Mary was the first tabernacle for Jesus, His first “church” in which He dwelt and in Mary’s womb His tiny heart grew as the Incarnate Son of God and Son of Mary. No other human person can compare with Mary, Mother of God who became our Mother on Calvary. The union of Jesus and Mary in mind and heart is unique and is for us to ponder that we might grow in holiness.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, Refuge of sinners, pray for us.
