Thanks be to God for His guiding you back into the Church.

1. The first thing I’d recommend is Confession, followed by committing to keeping the precepts of the Church.
2. Destroy and discard objects used in occult activities. See post #2 in this thread for details.
3. After Confession, say the prayer of Renunciation Of Satan and Claiming the Full Victory. After Confession, your sin is forgiven, but consequences can remain, such as attachments and ground that Satan stole from you because of your sin. This prayer renounces those things and reclaims the ground in your life for Christ.
4. If you did occult practices in your home, I recommend this House Cleansing and Blessing. The link is to a PDF file.

I know someone who was afflicted by the demonic. She has never been personally involved with the occult but she is an extremely sensitive person, who suffered rejection, stress, inability to sleep, and possibly levels of despair before it happened horribly. She also comes from a culture where many people are pagan so it may be familial influence. She had to quit school because of what happened. With frequent recitation of the Most Holy Rosary and a one-time visit to Confession, it went away but returned a year later with even greater vengeance.

Quite possibly it was a fulfillment of Luke 11:24-26, “When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, “I will return to the house I left.” When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first.”

She is now battling it - day by day. This has seemed to work: wearing a blessed Virgin Mary medal, Our Lady of Perpetual help medal, St. Michael medal, St. Benedict (patron saint of exorcists) medal, a brown scalpular, and a Crucifix. Praying 5-decades of the Most Holy Rosary, not just frequently, but every single day and daily Mass seemed to provide complete freedom from the more violent forms of whatever she was suffering from but not freedom from despair, sadness, or lethargy.

Praying 15 decades of the Most Holy Rosary every day in the morning seems to provide freedom from much, but not all, of the despair, sadness, and lethargy for the rest of the month after this was done for an entire month. She is thinking of reading St. Faustina’s Diary and praying the Divine Mercy chaplet at 3:00 pm every day in addition to fight the spiritual battle even harder.

It makes sense that it would be the Immaculate Heart of Mary waging this warfare. St. Padre Pio is a saint who literally fought with the devil, the devil would come physically torture him or come to his confessional and pretend to be a human sinner, and he said, “The Rosary is the WEAPON,” and said as many as 90 rosaries in a special form a day. From Genesis, “I will place enmities between you and the woman, between your race and her race; she will crush your head and you will lie in wait for her heel.”

From True Devotion to Mary,**52. ** God has established only one enmity - but it is an irreconcilable one - which will last and even go on increasing to the end of time. That enmity is between Mary, his worthy Mother, and the devil, between the children and the servants of the Blessed Virgin and the children and followers of Lucifer.

Thus the most fearful enemy that God has set up against the devil is Mary, his holy Mother. From the time of the earthly paradise, although she existed then only in his mind, he gave her such a hatred for his accursed enemy, such ingenuity in exposing the wickedness of the ancient serprent and **such power to defeat, overthrow and crush this proud rebel that Satan fears her not only more than angels and men but in a certain sense more than God himself. ** This does not mean that the anger, hatred and power of God are not infinitely greater than the Blessed Virgin’s, since her attributes are limited. It simply means that Satan, being so proud, suffers infinitely more in being vanquished and punished by a lowly and humble servant of God, for her humility humiliates him more than the power of God. **Moreover, God has given Mary such great power over the evil spirits that, as they have often been forced unwillingly to admit through the lips of possessed persons, they fear one of her pleadings for a soul more than the prayers of all the saints, and one of her threats more than all their other torments. **

Being a Latina and having been surrounded by the Santeria/Voodoo culture my whole life I would start by burning any of the objects related to your previous involvement in Voodoo, speak to a priest about this and see if you can set up a time for him to come to your home to have it blessed.

I don’t know just how deeply involved you were…but usually practicioners in Voodoo are initiated by way of what Latino’s call “cogiendo el asiento de Santo” meaning “Taking the seat of the saint” and you are given a necklace made of tiny colorful beads.

If your involvement was just by way of reading books… then I would say a deliverance prayer like the following:

Renunciation Ritual Prayer

** After making a list of all sins committed, ask forgiveness by any prayer of contrition, or for Catholics, confess these sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and perform the penance directed by the priest, and then burn the list of sins, saying this prayer (Protestants may omit the phrase ‘through the Sacrament of Reconciliation’ that is found in parenthesis)]

Thank You Heavenly Father for forgiving me. With the destruction of this list, I give up any and all attachment to the sins listed. Hi, cherry, I’m glad you’re getting out of that scary stuff. I wouldn’t trust a scapular, a medal, or praying the rosary. You won’t find such things in the bible. Did Jesus and/ or the disciples ever use or hand out such?

You just need Jesus! John 8:36 “If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”

He freed me from my bondage to alcoholism and porn. It was a rough road out too. I wish I had read Charles Spurgeon’s book, Power over Satan sooner…

The main thing is have you trusted in the completed work of the death on the cross, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ to save you and been born again?

Yes, Brother was married, and has grown children, and he also received an annullment when he went through RCIA. Your problem with that is. . .? You imply in your message that he was not free to take religious vows.

Your allegation that he has no education in theology is also false. He holds a Master’s degree in Theology. With nearly three decades of experience in deliverance ministry, he is well qualified to teach and counsel on spiritual warfare.

I am not sure on what teachings you claim he is “very much in error,” but in one post you yourself are very much in error as you rashly judge and calumniate a consecrated religious person.

He is a very reliable source - loyal to the Pope and Magisterium, and very knowledgeable.

Back in the late 70’s, early 80’s, he became involved with the New Age and the Occult. One morning he looked in the mirror and saw a horrible vision - where his eyes were supposed to be were black holes - he says blacker than black - more like an abyss. It was a vision of his soul dead and in Hell.

He became the prodigal son returning home after that vision. He converted to Catholicism, co-founded the OLSM and took private vows.

I do not mean to be slinging mud, but to make people aware that there are many sites on the web making false claims and so it is wise to be wary. In fact I would say that as a moderator of his forum your own opinion may be biased.

On another forum several years ago he was discussed and several people did make appropriate inquiries of his local bishop who was totally unaware of him and certainly he is under no legitimate church authority unless this has changed. You might want to check into this yourself.

He originally called himself Brother John Paul Ignatius. He created the “Order of the Legion of St Michael” and then professed his own "private vow"s. I don’t know his general means of support but years ago on his site he made some reference to receiving disability due to fibromyalgia.

Yes, I was unaware of any annulment or of any “Masters in Theology” . He was in his younger years heavily involved in antiwar demonstrations, the new age and the occult and had some horrifying experiences. After high school he attended a protestant bible college, but it is uncertain as to if he completed it. I would certainly like to know from what institution he received his “Masters in Theology”. I do not believe he even has a college degree much less a masters. If you know from where correct me here and tell me where he received his degree and his masters.

Anyone can petition the vatican for a new order, but first must submit to the local ecclesial authority which he has not done and fully states so on his site. He has just founded his own private association such as a home rosary group and is certainly not a “brother” of any approved church order. He has proclaimed himself a “brother”. He is under absolutely NO authority in the church.

And yes I do disagree that he is qualified to counsel and teach or to offer his own private “deliverance ministry.” without official approval of the Church. I would also like to know when and where he officially attended RCIA.

I am not calumating a “consecrated” (by whom) religious. Anyone can be self-consecrated! I would not trust anyone to counsel me in spiritual matters who is not under the authority of the Church!
