Does the Catholic church have such a thing. My “boyfriend” and i are both in our 70’s, both Catholic, both lost our spouses late last year and would like our commitment to each other to be recognized by God and the Catholic church. We don’t want to get “married” for many reasons, but are totally and completely committed to one another for the rest of our lives and want to make this commitment in front of God. Is this a possibility or will we be forced to “live in sin” or go to another church?

In single life, we are called to Chastity. I guess the answer is if you guys want a chaste relationship or a typically marital one.

I am so sorry for your loss last year.

In this country we are not forced to live in sin unless it be of threat/force violence or no knowledge of the teaching of the church or of the Ten Commandments. Do what you will, but if you are truly committed to each other why not go ahead and get married. If it is money, property, real value or personal resources…then have a marriage contract drawn up, marry and be happy. Peace.

You have two choices, either you chastely live apart and act like friends or you live together and get married. Why would you be forced to live in sin? Sounds like you’re excluding yourselves from the Church. If you’re both truly committed to each other marriage should not be an obstacle but rather a testament to your love for each other.
