Do you mean Platonists? if so, you misunderstand Augustine, he states among all philosophers = (lovers of wisdom), only the Platonists` are the only ones that comes the closest to the Christian faith. It was Catholicism that revealed the true God to Augustine, from all his learning. Catholicism proved the true God exists to him, and that all Truth is in Catholicism. For he will not trust the gospels if the Church would not have told him so.really? I wasn’t aware of much interest in God’s history with humanity as experienced in the line running from Adam through Abraham, the Prophets, Mary and Jesus in paganism. I don’t disagree about the fundamental role that affirmation of the one God plays…but again, that can indeed be found in quite a few pagans (one might think of Plotinus, in whom Augustine says he found all of Christianity except the Cross).
Of course insofar as everyone desires Allah, they have some commonality with Christianity (and Islam), but I didn’t really take that to be the question.
salaam.
I agree !Both stress a need for helping those less fortunate.
Both accept the concept of a God that is active in the lives of men.
Both hold that how we live our lives on earth leads to the final destination of our souls after we die.
So do I, to Sis Amy. Well done sis…I agree !
