The OP is obviously aware of the gravity of the situation and is doing what he can to change it. I don’t think he needs a harsh lecture as a recent revert and someone trying to do the right thing. It sounds like the priest is trying to be understanding while leading them in the right direction.

Why people stay with partners who don’t want to get married? Goodness, I see that all the time. They love them and hope for a change of heart, or are too scared to end the relationship and move on.

OP, you need to pray for strength to do the right thing. There are no impediments in your way since she is not properly married to start with, except her reluctance. Hopefully this will change asap. But if not … you need to be strong and do God’s will.

Praying for your intention.

I will pray that your partner’s heart will be opened during this Year of Mercy. Maybe start praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet for your intention (the 3 o’clock hour is said to be powerful.)

Your partner may be hesitant to end her previous marriage thinking that has an implication on the children. Explore that aspect with the priest and he may be able to alleviate any questions. Also as spouses one responsibility is to help each other achieve heaven. That is very difficult in your current situation.

You sound like a very kind man. Your mistakes were made prior to your reversion to your faith and you are standing strong with that commitment. I think you’re doing what you can and I hope 2016 will be a new beginning for all of you.
