I’m not sure if this belongs on this forum, if it doesn’t please relocate it anyway, I was watching a show on A&E the other day about exorcisms and such, the main thing that I got out of it was that many times mental/emotional illnesses could actually be that the person is posessed by demons/evil. That it didn’t matter the medication or treatment given…it wasn’t going to work. I’m beginning to believe this may be true.

My husband and I are “supposedly” trying to work our marriage out despite his multiple infidelities, gambling/alcohol addictions and constant lying. Although, it seems I’m more committed to this than he is, so it’s wearing thin for me…but that’s a different story. Here’s the deal there are days when he seems to be genuinely trying, when it seems that he’s empathetic and sympathetic to how hard this is for me, when he’s telling me the truth and when he’s open to talking about things that bother/concern me, but then it seems as though someone else takes over. Like there’s someone else in him that tells him…“You don’t owe her any explanations!, You don’t owe anyone any explanations, you are free to come and go as you want and to do what you want, no one can impose anything on you!” Etc, it seems like something comes over him, like the rebellious side. I’m not sure what to think and it’s wearing my patience thin, even though I pray about it everyday. I really am beginning to think that he is possessed  With his type of work, evil and immoral behavior all around and his being away from God (he’s SDA) so long, isn’t it a good possibility that he is possessed and won’t get better unless he acknowledges this and seeks an exorcism/spiritual healing? Any ideas/suggestions

There are many ways that the devil can affect a person. Possession is the most severe, and the most rare. Demonic oppression is more common. The oppression can take physical form (as with Job) or mental/emotional. The good news is that prayer and sacramentals such as holy water can literally work wonders. But, it takes* alot* of prayer and fasting. It can take as much time and effort to free someone from oppression as it does from a full possession.
