Communion/Altar rail cloth help

I’m hoping someone here can help or point me in the right direction.

My EF parish would like to return to the use of the Communion/Altar rail cloth. We have a beautiful marble rail so want to be careful what is attached, and how it’s attached. There is my problem…

So here is my question, If you have a marble rail, and you use an altar cloth on that rail, what kind of hardware are you using to hang the cloth.

My EF parish does this. I will check on how it is attached to the marble railing. We are only visitors in another parish church, as we have no building of our own. The hardware may have already been there. But, I’ll get back to you and let you know when next I am at Mass.🙂
 
I imagine you can sew some fabric ties on to the cloth.
 
In such a way that the ties are tied to the posts of the rail from the altar-facing side, and the cloth is wrapped up, around and over the rail, with the free edge hanging 6" or so down the other side, facing the nave.
 
When i receive communion we have a marble railng,and I see no need to cover the beautful marble railing design ,covering would reunion the way it looks.

Actually, there was a fascinating article about the rubrics for purification and it was noted in there that there were no rubrics for the purification of the altar rail cloth. At one point I had the article but I cannot fine it now. It was rather lengthy and got into all the rules.
someone else may be able to find it.
 
In gthe parish I grew up in, we had a brass rail that ran on the sanctuary side of the rail, and the cloth was attached to that.
Sorry, I don’tknow if the had drilled holes in the marble to use screws to attach it, or if they had some sort of glue or other substance holding the rail. It was a little bigger in diameter than a pencil.
 
Thank you… do you remember if the cloth slipped onto the rail like a curtain or if it was tied onto the rail?

I am assuming you are asking me. And that has been lost in the mists of history. The altar “rail” was marble, and the top was soemthing like 4 or 6 inches deep. The cloth was attached, but I don’t recall whether it was tied or hung like a curtain on the small brass rail.

At some point it was removed; and that was before Vatican 2. No idea why - possibly the issue of geting it up and over the top of the “rail”; possibly because there was no way to purify it.

It went away; then subsequently the altar rail went away.
