My wife actually never gave me the choice. She came home and said the priest asked if we want communion or not. I told him no, we didn’t want something that highlights disunity in our family at our wedding by performing a practice where you (me) and your family can’t participate.
Pretty much any priest I know will recommend not having the nuptial Mass when one of the spouses is not Catholic for exactly this reason. It makes complete sense.

From what I understand…from our situation, the priest didn’t make a recommendation…he asked my wife what she wanted and she said she didn’t want communion. She didn’t want me and my family bystanders…I didn’t even get a choice.

TBH, I always found it strange the priest asked her, not US, what we wanted.
