Communion before Confession - even with mortal sin?

The answer is no you cannot receive Communion if you are in a state of mortal sin. Even if you make an act of perfect contrition that would mean your sins would be forgiven should you die before you get to Confession, but assuming you don’t die you must go to Confession before receiving Communion.

If you are in a state of Mortal sin,. why would you want to receive Holy Communion? In so doing you would be showing complete and utter contempt for the sacrament as you would be receiving unworthily.

Exactly. Plus, why would you want to join yourself to our Lord under those conditions? Is that how we show Christ that we love Him by inviting Him into a place (our soul) which contains a mortal sin which He finds deeply offensive?
