We are looking for gift suggestions for my nieces 1st communion (8 year old).
What makes a good communion gift?

The best gift is to convert. Tell the boy that because of his belief in God, you are reassesing the validity of God in your life and because of his participation in the 1st Communion, you wife has accepted Jesus and you both want to join the Catholic Church.

As for Communion gifts, a small necklace (crucifix for example) is always nice.

When in doubt about a gift…give money! Or a savings bond (they still have those don’t they?)

Thanks Moira, that is exactly what I meant! My keyboard has been replaced and I can speak English again.

I was hoping to communicate that when my relative whom doesn’t share our faith gave us a pretty picture frame with an inscription commemorating the date, I (and my child) felt they were proud of our daughter for making First Holy Communion. I know that the leafletonline.com is a great resource for such picture frames and other ideas.

a picture frame or album is always a good gift for a religious milestone, from a relative who does not share the religion, because it does not make a religious statement per se, yet can be useful for souvenirs of the event.
