Communion in the Hand?

I keep reading about Jesus eating with dirty hands.

Although Jesus continually slammed the Pharisees about their strict adherence to Jewish law, specifically keeping the Sabbath, He did not eat with unclean hands. Jews washed their hands before they ate.

In the same manner, the priest washes his hands at the offering, although it does memorialize something else and really is not intended for cleanliness.

Besides, it would have been out of character for him not to wash before eating, The Blessed Virgin would have insisted he do it before meals.

The Last Supper was at the Passover. The Passover meal was all about tradition. Washing before the meal would have been proper.

I may not know much, but this makes sense to me.

Interesting. Kind of begs the question as to why we’re not required to do some sort of ritual handwashing before receiving communion. (Yes, I know, tongue-supporters…that’s why we should ban communion in the hand ) ) But seriously, doesn’t it make sense that some sort of ritual washing would be desirable?

Although I prefer receiving the host on the tongue while kneeling, what difference does it make really which way we receieve the host? As long as we receive it with grace, love, and respect for our Lord we are receiving it worthilly, whether kneeling or standing.
