Appreciated. The church doesn’t generally offer the cup at all…

The priest is handling gluten so his hands unavoidably cross contaminate it. I am going to suggest that someone other than the celebrant serve the GF host, who has not touched the others with their hands. Maybe have the GF people go up first to that person, who can then help in another line.

Any priests reading this though …please note that gluten free hosts should be served by someone who is not also handling regular hosts and who has thoroughly washed their hands. When the GF people are all through the line, that person can switch to regular hosts but should not go back to GF. Hand sanitizer does not help. Gluten is not bacteria…it is a protein which had to be manually washed off the hands with soap and running water…

Celiac patients are very sensitive to cross contamination and it can be microscopic. As another person mentioned, health consequences are no joke… Four kinds of lymphoma, ulcers, potential bowel resections…it can be very serious. I can be a bit dramatic with my reactions…I pass out, get massive hives, lose balance, have seizures and have at times thought I was having a stroke: I couldn’t walk or talk. That was caused by a Chinese restaurant accidentally using soy sauce in my gluten free dish. I had brain fog for weeks.

So, if you can maybe set up a “GF people first” line, it would be great.
