Receiving on the tongue, kneeling is an act of reverence. It’s especially humble in 2012. Do men even kneel to ask their wives to marry them, these days?

I wouldn’t. I’m already married to my wife, why would I ask her to marry me again?

But seriously, most men don’t even want to get married in this day and age, let alone kneel to ask. And that kneeling to ask, modern. That is not how an engagement was done through a great majority of the history of mankind.

I was wondering where men kneel at all, these days. Observe how acts of humilty were stripped out of our religious practices. Why, we think it fine for laywomen to be in the Sanctuary in common clothing, nowadays

Which is precisely why, for some, kneeling no longer represents an act of reverence, and so not kneeling is not a sign of less reverence for those people.

Yes indeed! And as Francis Cardinal Arinze has said, in regard to kneeling- if you believe you are in the presence of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, why wouldn’t you kneel? Why wouldn’t you crawl?!!?

You know what, You’re right. Everyone that goes to the Tridentine Mass down the road are obviously being completely irreverent even though they kneel to receive because they aren’t crawling.

Doesn’t that statement kind of prove the point I’m trying to make? yes, external signs of reverence are important, but ultimately it is the internal state that is important. I could denounce the FSSP as irreverent cads who have no fear of God Almighty because they kneel instead of prostrating themselves.

I just want to be clear, I am all for more reverence. I am well aware that there is a lack of reverence in the church in America these days. But it is wrong to equate reverence with an external gesture and so make a judgement about the internal state of others by that.

Does anyone know why an indult was sought for CITH? I’m looking for history as to how this came about. I believe knowing how things got started can sometimes shed a lot of light.
