I haven’t read through this yet, but thought it of interest.
Comparing Performance of Universal Health Care Countries, 2017 | Fraser Institute?

Comparing the performance of different countries’ health-care systems provides an opportunity for policy makers and the general public to determine how well Canada’s health-care system is performing relative to its international peers. Overall, the data examined suggest that, although Canada’s is among the most expensive universal-access health-care systems in the OECD, its performance is modest to poor.

Appreciate the information. Was looking at the expense… What if we (USA) did away with Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid??? Relplace it with single payer health care. Could that work? We would have to go to something else to replece a retirement blanket… but if healthcare was free??? That’s a big expense for getting older…

You can’t lump in Social Security since that’s rent and grocery money.

How is medicare and medicaid not already equivalent to national healthcare for it’s participants? The next step would be hiring healthcare staff as Govt employees.

What if they tried to sell it as doing away with Medicare and Medicaid??? They keep talking about how much it would cost… I’m not in favor of socialized medicine… just wondering how it might fly???

Doctors already complain that medicare and medicaid don’t provide sufficient compensation for required services. What we need is real reform that lowers the cost of delivering healthcare services, not the compensation schedule.

The U.S. spends 250% of the OECD average for health care.
Canada compares poorly to other OECD countries because it spends 15% more than that average.
The tax rate is higher to cover the costs, but the final cost to the individual is markedly less.
Canada’s universal health care program does not allow for medical care outside the one-payer system.
It has tried to reduce costs by restricting the number of health care providers and facilities.
The over-all care people receive is great, when they can get it.
Naturally, there is the inevitable downside of not receiving prompt access to care, and doctors may feel over-worked, under-valued and experience less job satisfaction, trying to keep up with demand.
It is my understanding that cities like Buffalo see many Canadian patients who want quick access to medical care.

If you are a rich Canadian, like being rich anywhere else, you likely either have connections that will enable you jump the queue, or have a additional, likely American health coverage that will get you into places like the Mayo Clinic. I’m not sure anyone is worried about how they will manage. The issue is the poor, the aged, and the sick. And, more importantly, I would think it’s the middle class who should be demanding more for their buck and what they actually contribute to their society.

Well, that’s my take on it anyway.

I’m not so sure the U.S. any time soon will figure out how to make their health system more efficient, accessible and cost-effective, given all the political differences and discord.

This plays into my big question for B. Sanders who says Health Care is a Right and not a privilege…
People cannot be FORCED to become doctors even in Socialism or Communism, right? So, what if Nobody wants to be a doctor? who provides the right to health care? Nurses? Mid-wives? What if all the doctors just say “hey, this isn’t worth it…”

We increase our quota for immigration of doctors, and nurses.
Just speak slowly when you are describing your ailments.
