I’m looking for a book that compares the catechism of the council of trent to the current catechism promulgated by Pope JPII. I want to see, preferably in two columns side by side, how the teachings have changed. Can anyone please recommend a book? Thanks!

I doubt such a document exists. What you are asking for is extremely broad. Perhaps if you narrow it down to a handful of questions.

From a practical standpoint, councils are called to deal with very specific issues. Trent was called to deal with the issues surrounding the reformation. Popes on the other hand, usually teach in much broader terms. They deal with council related items as well as addressing the needs to the whole church. You could probably start with a list of the decrees of the council and then see what JPII taught on those.

The new Catechism is more complete. The Catechism of the Council of Trent I’m not familiar with but I assume it would be like the Baltimore Catechism or the Roman Catechism. One of the best Catechisms is the Catholic Catechism by the Servant of God Fr. John A. Hardon S.J. I use it in conjunction with our new one. 👍

Do you have a link for Fr. Harden’s catechism, Linus?
Here is a link to some of Father Hardon’s Catechesis, Sirach. I think that you (and others interested in this subject) might find the last 6 links on the page especially interesting

I know that the book that Linus refers to is available for purchase; perhaps someone else knows of an online edition?

I’m afraid it is not available for free on line reading, though it can be read on Kindel or on some kind of download for a fee. You might get it from a library and you may find a good deal on Amozon. I have had good luck there. I think it is certainly worth while if you can spend $20 or so. 👍

I have a CCC and Trent catechism. I’m particularly interested in CCC 811 - 856 and how these compare to Trent. This should be fun research!
