Once again, I’m hoping this is the right sub-forum, lol.

I’ve been having a read through the Complementary Norms on the US Conference of Bishops’ wesbite. I noticed it said that the current norms were approved in 2000. Is there any way to read the historical complementary norms? I’m specifically looking for the ones in effect in the late 1980s.

And…does anyone know if the UK (England specifically) has a similar website?

From Canon Law Digest volume 11:

England and Wales

The Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales at their autumn meeting, 12-15 November 1984, decided that laws emanating from the conference, once approved by the Holy See, are to be promulgation in Briefing. The date of promulgation is to be the last day of the month appearing on the particular issue in which the legislation is published. In accordance with canon 8, §2 of the new Code of Canon Law, such laws begin to oblige one month from the date of promulgation, unless a different period is prescribed in the law itself. Briefing is a subscription service of documents and news releases published by the Catholic Media Office. The subscription secretary is at: 16, Alpraham Crescent, Chester CH2 IQX, England.

Thank you. That helped me find the UK’s website.

I’m specifically trying to find the 1980s norms for the USA. If it’s possible to find, but I’m not sure how to go about looking for it.

Here is a page in a canon law commentary that may help locate what you are looking for. Footnote 146 refers to a 1993 publication with the norms from that time.

i think you’ll find that the book published n 2000 contains all the norms that have been set out since the new Code of Canon Law came into effect in 1983. different norms are established at different times. There may not have been a norm set out for the particular canon you are looking for.
